Uncork the Cure, Chicago IL

Recently I photographed a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis in Chicago, IL. It was an inspiring event and I’m so happy I could play a small part in it. Close to 300 people made their way out to the Chicago History Museum to give of their time and money in efforts to fund vital CF research. Before this event, I admittedly knew little about CF so I appreciated a chance to educate myself on the disease. I learned that we are close to 5 years away from finding a cure for CF! How amazing is that?!

The Chicago History Museum was an awesome place to have this event…

I learned that, since Cystic Fibrosis is hard for children to pronounce, some refer to it as ‘65 Roses’ instead. The committee ran with this idea, and for $20 guests could pull a cork out of the bowl below at random and receive a surprise bottle of wine that corresponded to that number. So fun!

Uncork the Cure also raised money through a silent auction with many, many awesome prizes!

Two girls from the committee, Amy on the left and Kate on the right. I grew up around Kate and she is just the sweetest person around! She was the one who thought of me to photograph this event. Thank you Kate :)

Joseph was the emcee and auctioneer of the Live Auction. He did an awesome job…

This is Reno. Reno has CF and spoke to us about his daily routine and how he copes with his disease. He had an incredible spirit and was an inspirational speaker for sure.

Kali,

If I could legally stuff a yellow trash bag full of fall leaves and send them to you in Arizona,  I would in a heartbeat. Miss you roomie. See you in around 67 sleeps. Be prepared to bake.

Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No it won’t all go the way it should
But I know the heart of life is good

Want

Today I’m grateful for… red & green covers, unplanned lunch with my Dad, smile from a stranger, Dirty Dancing soundtrack,  a cat nap, Where the Wild Things Are trailer, bear hugs, my dreams, honesty, a big stretch, supportive family, pretzel goldfish and freshly blown out candles.

I am really beginning to want a puppy dog in my life. Especially this one.

Happy  almost weekend : )

VIVIAN + LUCY + JOHNNY

I’m just going to go ahead and throw this out there. Is is just me, or do these children look like they belong in a magazine?

In all honesty, I couldn’t begin to explain how much they mean to me. Vivian is incredibly sweet, gentle and caring. The perfect big sister. Lucy is a rockstar that totally marches to the beat of her own drum. She’s my little firecracker. Johnny, he’s like a perfect blend of the two…lovey dovey with his own beat too.

It’s definitely easier to see how quickly time passes when you watch a child grow up. I’ll never forget: It was a late afternoon in late September. I was studying abroad in Florence. Johnny was going to come any day now. I was in my Batik class. My teacher, Iris, had just assigned a new project. I was at my table sketching when my tiny, blue rental cell phone started to buzz. I went outside and paced the cobblestone streets of one of the most beautiful places in the world as my Mom told me all about Johnny’s arrival. I couldn’t wait to meet him in December.

That was only two years ago. Now, Johnny is running around and loves to give out knucks. Where were you 2 years ago? How much has changed in your life? It’s just wild. Time flies. Don’t forget to slow down and appreciate the small things.

Johnny loves all things boy. Trucks, construction equipment, you name it :)
