My Getaway

My favorite part of my day? Buying Alexi Murdoch’s Time Without Consequence album. I’ve had it on repeat all day and I can pretty much safely say at this point that it has already changed my life a little bit. If you haven’t heard Orange Sky, please download it and listen. It’s beyond perfect to my ears. For real.

I’ve lived in my new place for a little over two months now. It’s really feeling like home these days and it feels sooo good. I knew before moving in that I’d want to put together my happy place where I’d get my work done. Orange has always been my favorite color so I knew I’d want a splash of it :) Other than that, I just wanted to put together a space where I could get away. It’s perfect for me. I’m a dreamer here.

There’s my mom and dad from back in the day taped to my computer. I put those there to remind me where I come from. My parents believed in me before I believed in myself. They’ve given everything to help see my dreams come to fruition and that - well, I could never put a price tag on that. To see some of these photos actually shows me how far I’ve come. I’m so blessed.

Indianapolis Photographer: Jonathan

Check out Jonathan’s website by clicking here . . .  he’s super talented and held his own during this cold, cold shoot. Sunshine is deceiving. I thought I’d be fine but my fingers truly were not functioning by the time we finished : ) Big thanks to the fantastic Megan Grandi for the chance to get my butt out in the sunshiney cold to do what I love. Happy to say my fingers have finally thawed :)

My favorite shot of the day. . .

WHY? Because I have felt the positive effects of being given so much in the past year from my family, friends, and universe in general. I want to pay it forward and give back.

WHAT MADE YOU THINK OF THIS? Fun question. I was watching the Proposal the other day. I *love* Sandra Bullock. Undoubtedly my favorite part of this movie is that the aaadorable fluffy White Eskimo dog is named Kevin. Don’t you think it’s funny when animals are given human names? INSPIRATION: SARAH RHOADS PHOTOGRAPHERS

I have so many photo blogs bookmarked on my computer. Too many. There’s one that I keep coming back to. . . pretty much every day.

Sarah Rhoads is a husband/wife team based out of Seattle. I discovered them about a year ago and I. Love. Them. I adore their creative vision and artistic voice. Sarah’s writing pulls me in every time - speaking of, I admire people who write well. It’s like the perfect fusion of storytelling - to be able to a convey a story with powerful words AND images. This post is merely to give them more exposure because I think they’re bomb. If you haven’t already heard of them and have a minute, stop by their blog and leave some love. Don’t hate me for getting hooked though ;)

The Workshop

Let’s rewind back to Christmas…

My parents are Christmas fanatics. At the core, I think they love Christmas so much as it’s an excuse to give, give, and give some more. My mother takes pride in being one of the best gift givers in history of the universe. Truly. Every year she and my dad completely outdo themselves. A few days after Christmas, I posted a video on my blog of Christmas day with my family. If you haven’t had a chance to see it and would like to, click here. . .

. . . I temporarily lose it in the video. You know, crying and all. I warned you I’m my mother’s daughter. My mother is superwoman (and the holiday cheermeister) and managed to lock in a spot for me at a Jasmine Star Workshop. In California. I was so shocked when I received the gift. I admit, I totally geeked out. I was just honestly so touched by how truly thoughtful the gift was and still is.

Fast forward to this very minute. I’ve had a little over a day to process everything that went down at The Workshop on Tuesday. I’m overwhelmed and my heart feels like it is bursting at its seams. I learned so much and am so excited to have a group of new photographer friends that come from places near and far: Tennessee, D.C, Hawaii, Georgia, Cali and Canada to name a few. It feels so, so good to be in an industry where everyone helps each other out. To say I’m excited for the future would be an understatement.

Jodi and Matt were our models for the workshop. They were fun and easygoing :) Jodi’s dress was designed by the super talented Joan Shum.
